Yamadaya Ramen Costa Mesa

4.4(360 reviews)

Tonkotsu specialist known for the Tonkotsu Black (with mayu garlic oil) and a tsukemen that holds its own. The chashu is thick-cut and properly braised. Modest interior, fast turnover, and consistently good across visits.

Tonkotsu Black with mayu (garlic oil) was rich and properly porky. Thick-cut chashu braised right. Not as deep a bowl as Tsujita but the best tonkotsu in Costa Mesa by a mile.

Tsukemen held up better than the regular tonkotsu on my visit — the dipping broth had real concentration. Chashu was excellent. Egg was overcooked on the day I went.
